I don’t like to be negative here so I’ll keep this relatively short. Tonight simply wasn’t good enough. In what should have been a lock for a win, we ended up losing 3-0 to St Albans. Credit to St Albans, they looked good from the start and deserved the win. The performance from South though was unacceptable.
I rocked up late and was told by my mates that I had missed St Albans nearly score from the start, thankfully when I got there I saw a few half South chances and thought the worst had passed… it had not. St Albans found themselves up 2-0 at the break and we looked clueless. Unable to hold the ball and looking to play on the counter as we did against Victory. Well – we drew that game and St Albans were battle hardened senior players unlike the kids we faced last week. What this meant is we didn’t even have half chances. We absorbed more and more pressure until we cracked.
There was more fight in the second half but St Albans were more than happy to sit back and throw in the odd violent challenge. We looked nervous and then rushed, and then they scored a third to wrap it up.
The only solace from tonight was that it appears we rested players for the big game on Friday. Mells and Bonada were both out of the line up and we had kids on the bench. We can take this if we win on Friday, but otherwise, this was an example of how not to rotate a squad early in the season.
Nervous for Friday now…
