There’s not much of a history between myself and the MotoGP, but after a short trip to Philip Island and a few laps on the go kart track down there I discovered a potential interest. I found out the big race of the year down in Philip Island was the Moto GP and also found out that the race was set to leave the Island.
Soon after my trip the decision was confirmed with the race set to leave the Island for Adelaide but in search of something new to get into I started reading up on MotoGP anyway. It seems cool. I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos and kind of have an idea of how it works, and I enjoy watching the highlights so I might keep an eye on it this year.
Just to get my groundings, here’s the basics I’ll be starting with. There’s 11ish teams and 20ish racers. There are 22 races from March to November, most of them are in Western Europe. Spanish racers dominate the grid, there’s also a few Italians – and lucky for me there’s one Aussie. Jack Miller, number 43 rides for Yamaha.
He raced in all races last year and finished 17th – out of 29. Unfortunately, his team Prima Pramac came last, and Yamaha came last in the constructers’ championship too. I’ll keep an eye on him this year and looks like I’ll just be hoping he manages to complete every race. Still pretty incredible for an Aussie though.
The winners last year were Ducati in the constructer’s championship, Ducati Lenovo in the team championship and Marc Marquez in the racer’s championship.
Anyway, baby steps. The first race weekend is in Thailand with the race on the 1st of March. Let’s go!
