Angels & Demons, by Dan Brown (2009)

Angels & Demons was a fun book that I finally got to reading after encouragement from a friend. I accept that it isn’t a guilty pleasure, it was a good book! An engaging fast paced story with interesting characters and beautifully weaved interactions with history’s odds and ends. Anyone approaching this with more than the hopes of a fun time will be disappointed. To poke holes in the historical fallacies or ridiculousness of the plot resolution points is to not enjoy this book for what it is. A fun, escapist adventure!

I liked how Brown also created mystery in the religious and scientific themes of the book, never really confirming one or the other in the story’s world. I also liked how he explores the relationship between the media and institutions. Just like the book itself Brown seems to understand that humanity is a culture of beholden to narrative, and he himself uses the tool expertly!
